HPS - Who We Are

Hamilton Power & Sail Squadron (HPS) is a unit of Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons (CPS), an organization of recreational boating enthusiasts. The corporation is structured as a group of local squadrons formed into districts from the Atlantic to the Pacific. HPS is part of Niagara district. The Hamilton Squadron received it's charter in 1949.

CPS is a nationwide organization of boating enthusiasts. Their aim is to increase boating safety and enjoyment by providing instruction in all phases of seamanship and navigation, both power & sail. It is a volunteer, charitable, membership-type organization, incorporated under the Companies Act of Canada. CPS is non-government, non-regulatory and non-military. It is not restricted to boat owners, nor owners of large yachts.

Purely and simply, it is a dedicated group interested in increasing safety and pleasure on the waterways through education.

A member has earned the right to fly the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons' flag. Members take pride in displaying the CPS flag because it represents knowledge and accomplishment. Other members recognize and salute these values.
A member is eligible to take the Advanced and the Elective Courses, which extends their "on the water" skills and knowledge.
A member receives a subscription to the magazine "Canadian Yachting " which also contains the CPS publication "Port Hole". In addition to interesting topics, it keeps them posted on National activities.
A member receives "Dry Rot", a publication produced by the Hamilton squadron covering local topics and announcements of current squadron activities.
A member is entitled to apply for CPS Boat insurance coverage with Dalton, Smith, MacNaughton Ltd. at preferred rates.
A member is entitled to a 5-15% discount with certain Charter Boat operations in Ontario, British Columbia, Florida, and British Virgin Islands as well as notable discounts when traveling on land with certain recognized auto rental companies.
A member by active participation can extent their social camaraderie and knowledge by attending squadron initiated seminars, safety programs, and social events.
A member with certain skills and interest may join other volunteers as a class proctor or course instructor, thus extending their knowledge to others.
A member might be willing to serve on the "Bridge" or executive in some capacity and thus assist in the continuation of programs for new boaters.

Only applicants who have passed the CPS Boating Course can apply for membership.

Membership in the Hamilton Power & Sail Squadron includes membership in the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons!
